Here is a new art print inspired by this week’s Illustration Friday theme, ‘asleep’. I’m experimenting with new colour palettes and text within my artwork. What do you think?

Soaked for Illustration Friday

Published in: Etsy, Illustration, Illustration Friday, Store with 5 comments

Here is my entry for this week’s Illustration Friday. Better late than never! It seems that the little monkey and mouse don’t want to get soaked in the puddle of water :)

I wanted to create a new illustration for this week’s theme but with family visiting this weekend, there wasn’t the time… and not to mention my new life with two kiddos! I can see how free time is going to be very precious and limited. I love my family life though and wouldn’t change a thing. I am savouring the days with my two little ones as I’ve seen firsthand how quickly they grow up. There will always be time for work later!

This is a series I illustrated a few months ago for my neighbour. It’s available for purchase in my Etsy store!

I’m back with an Illustration Friday!

Published in: Etsy, Illustration, Illustration Friday, Personal, Store with 7 comments

It’s been over a month since my last post but I think I’ve finally found a new rhythm to my life and found some time to do a bit of work :) Elijah is almost eight weeks old now and doing very well. We are thrilled to be a family of four! Isaac is adjusting to his new little brother very well and is keeping up to his usual active antics! Elijah is learning to sleep through some serious noise and action! lol

Adjusting to two kids was difficult at first. I found it hard to balance time between each member of my family. A newborn requires so much of my attention that it was difficult to not be spending as much time with Isaac and my husband. Thankfully, my mom has been here the whole time and tending to Isaac when I wasn’t able. She has also been amazing at keeping my house spotless and the laundry done! I don’t know how I would be sane without her :) Now that we have a routine, I’m able to balance my time better.

I’m ready to jump back into my work (when time permits) and start blogging again. I have some fun stuff coming up… including a couple giveaways so be sure to stay tuned!

In the meantime, I’ve included my submission for this week’s Illustration Friday theme of ‘Safari’. If you’re interested, you can purchase the above art print in my Etsy store.

Illustrating with Layers in Photoshop

Published in: Etsy, Illustration, Illustration Friday, Illustration Process, Store, Technical with 8 comments

This week’s Illustration Friday theme is ‘layers’. I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to show how I do a typical illustration using layers in Photoshop. I did a similar post a while ago but my process has tightened up a bit since then :)

My process includes sketching directly in Photoshop with my Wacom Cintiq. I then do a base colour layer, using a colour palette (often finding inspiration from I then work with highlights, lowlights, and light warmth. I clean up some of the lines at the end before finalizing the piece. This is a very simplified explanation of my process. My older post has some more detailed explanations of each step. Enjoy!

Knitting in Nature

So it’s not exactly Friday but I didn’t want to miss out in participating with this week’s Illustration Friday. So here it is… this week’s theme is ‘sweater’!

My mom flew in from Australia on Saturday so we’ve been busy catching up and having fun! What a difference it makes to have another set of hands during the day. When your belly is as big as a watermelon and you have a super active toddler, another pair of hands is invaluable :) She’ll be staying with over for the next few months to help us settle in with the new baby. I am sooo thankful to have her here!
