Phenomenon for IF

Published in: Illustration, Illustration Friday with 6 comments

I designed this clock last year and thought it fit well for this week’s Illustration Friday theme of ‘phenomenon’. Although it isn’t regarded as much of a phenomenon anymore, the idea of humans being able to travel in the air, all around the world, is pretty phenomenal!

Looking at this illustration now, the little boy reminds me so much of Isaac. He’s going through a phase where he loves to take his stuffed toys everywhere and have them take part in all his activities. Today we baked some muffins and his little penguin wanted to help too… ‘mama, penguin needs apron!’. Even with the apron (napkin tied around his neck), penguin needed a serious wash afterwards! 2 year olds are too cute :)

Prehistoric Birthday Card for IF

Published in: Illustration, Illustration Friday with 4 comments

I illustrated this birthday card for Bug Art greeting cards. We did a collection of 16 birthday cards but this was one of my favorite. I should really illustrate more dinosaurs – they’re so much fun to do… and with another little boy on the way, I need to expand my collection of boy images :) This card design fits perfectly with this week’s Illustration Friday theme of ‘prehistoric’.

On another note, our Christmas tree is up, the stockings are hung (ok, I know it’s early but I like to cherish the season), advent has begun, and there was a light layer of snow on the ground this morning. I love this time of year! Although Isaac and I have just gotten over some nasty colds, we are feeling very festive and cozy in our Christmasy home :)

‘Savour’ the Moment for IF

Published in: Custom Art Print, Custom Work, Illustration, Illustration Friday with 9 comments

I created this illustration as a custom art print for a friend. She wanted me to illustrate her two little ‘babies’ playing their favorite game :) I thought it fit well with this week’s Illustration Friday theme of ‘savour’. It’s so important to ‘savour’ those precious moments in your child’s life. They grow up very quickly and so many incredible moments happen in the first few years of their lives.

Although today is not a day I wish to savour! Isaac woke up on the wrong side of the bed and just didn’t seem to recover! Toddlers can be so fickle! One day they’re an angel, and they next, you wonder what happened to your sweet little child… I’m still not sure what went wrong today, but thankfully he’s quietly tucked in bed for the night. *sigh* Hopefully tomorrow will be a happier day :) Good night everyone!

Woodland Illustration for Nursery & IF Submission

Published in: Etsy, Illustration, Illustration Friday, Personal, Store, Woodland Nursery with 6 comments

I haven’t made a formal announcement, but we’ve recently found out that we are expecting a baby BOY at the end of March :) Isaac is going to have a little brother! We are thrilled with our growing family! I’ve been working away on a woodland theme for the new nursery. This has included going on an Etsy buying spree (click here to view some of my favorite items). We’ve painted the room a warm light grey with a chocolate brown accent wall. I’ve added 8 foot high tree wall stickers in white to the accent wall and plan to add some owl, fox, and bird wall stickers around the room. Along with some of the accessories and art I’ve purchased, I had to add my own illustration into the room :) Isaac’s room has the Space Adventure illustration and now our new baby will have this one, entitled, Woodland Storytime.

I knew I wanted to do a woodland illustration for the nursery but was waiting until Illustration Friday‘s theme came out to see how it could add a twist to my idea. I decided to add a cute little squirrel hiding behind the tree stump, listening in to the story. He was being a bit ‘sneaky‘ (this week’s theme). I hope you like it!

Quilt Art for IF

Published in: Custom Work, Illustration, Illustration Friday with 16 comments

The theme for this week’s Illustration Friday is ‘afterwards’. It’s a bit of an awkward topic as it’s quite interpretive. I decided that the logo design I completed for Quilt Arte fit quite well with it though. The final beautiful quilt that comes after all the hard work :)

Just to give you a bit of background, Cynthia from Quilt Arte contacted me a while ago to create a logo/image for her business. She creates incredible quilts from original art and patterns. She actually asked me if she could use my Springtime illustration as inspiration for one of her quilts. I am very excited to see the final product! I was flattered that she wanted to use one of my designs to inspire her and then she eventually asked for me to design her logo. You must check out her website and examples of her work – it’s so intricate her beautiful!
