Back in Canada and Celebrating with a Sale!

Published in: Etsy, Illustration, Personal with 2 comments

We’re back in Canada and settling in very well! We are happy to be home ¬†and able to see all the family and friends we missed so much :) Our boxes are mostly unpacked and things are starting to feel normal again. Isaac has started school (which he loves) and my hubby is back at work. We miss a lot of things about Australia but we certainly feel this is home.

My print shop is back up and running and my Etsy store is now officially open. And what better way to celebrate our return and re-opened shop, then to have a sale! I’m offering 50% off everything in my Etsy store for the next week (Coupon Code: CAN2013 – Expires June 6, 2013). Be sure to check out all my new work!

I illustrated the piece above a couple years ago for a book contract. I don’t think I ever posted it online so I thought I would share it with you :) It hardly relates to the content of this post, but I just couldn’t do a blog post without an image!

Imitation: Not Always Best Form of Flattery

Published in: Personal with 80 comments

It’s come to my attention that my brand, my style (that I’ve worked so hard to make uniquely mine and be recognized for) has been copied by another illustrator. She’s been participating in Illustration Friday, blogging and has a FB biz page. I’ve had one email conversation with her expressing my concerns and she replied apologetically and said I’ve been an inspiration to her work (well, obviously!), but emails since has fallen on deaf ears. I’m concerned this could be damaging to my brand. Any advice?

Happy 2nd Birthday to my Sweet Little Boy!

Published in: Personal with 0 comments

My baby turns 2 today!

Dear Elijah,

A lot has happened in these past two years and all of a sudden I look at you and you’re a little boy. You are too sweet for words, clever, funny, and quite cheeky when you want to be! You have such a great personality and I know you will be well loved in this world. You love animals, especially dogs. Daddy doesn’t know this but I’m thinking we might just have to get you a puppy for your birthday one of these years! You are certainly a boy’s boy as you love to play with trucks, pirates, and love to get dirty. But you have a wonderfully soft side where you just want to be held and snuggle with your mommy :) I didn’t think it was possible but you are actually a pickier eater than your brother! You love your meat and carbs but rarely want to touch any fruits or veggies. You are the reason I spend about a half hour every morning making fresh juice so you can get all those important vitamins! You are stubborn and independent and want to be just like your brother. Each day, when we drop him off at school, you tell me you miss him and want to go back to get him. I love that you look up to him so much. He is a great big brother! One of my biggest prayers is that you two are the best of friends and are always there for each other. It’s a big world out there, and to have a loving brother to support you, is priceless.

We love you so much and are so happy that you are a part of our family. I am so excited to watch you grow and interact with your world. You are wonderfully loved!

Happy 2nd birthday.

New Art: Baby Animal Sketches

Published in: Design, Etsy, Illustration, Personal with 9 comments

My 2 year old loves animals more than any child I’ve met! Bears, dogs, and chicks are among his favorite but any animal will get this kid’s attention. Lately he has been really interested in mommies and babies. Anything small is a baby and big is a mommy. He is my inspiration behind this series. I think this would be very cute in his room beside his dresser. He is such a sweet and cuddly boy, each one of these images reminds me of snuggling with him at bedtime. If you’re interested, I’m selling these sketches as a series on 3×5 kraft stock in my Etsy store. I’d love to hear what you think :)

A sweet photo of my cuddly boy hugging a new stuffed lion on Valentine’s Day :)
