I recently signed a contract with a licensing agent! This is actually quite a big deal for me. I’ve been approached by several agents over the years but on the whole, have been happy to expand and market my business on my own.
Painted Planet Licensing Group wrote me a few weeks ago with interest in my work. I’ve been very hesistant with agents but had a very good vibe about this agency and felt like they approached me at the right time. With baby #2 on the way, my work hours are going to be reduced and I really won’t have as much time to market myself and get quality work on my own. Painted Planet is a licensing agent that will hopefully acquire me jobs that will allow my work to be featured on many more products than they are now; including tableware, fabric, stationary, and much more!
As soon as I signed the contract, I was able to collaborate with their talented art director and start getting my portfolio in order. A lot of my illustrations work well for licensing but one of the main comments from the art director was that I should expand each illustration into more of a collection that could be spread across various products. She recommended designing complimentary patterns and borders to compliment each piece. I’ve posted an example of the first piece I worked on. I had already designed this boy’s art print but she suggested I create a girl version and add some complimentary pieces to make it more viable for licensing. By adding these complimentary pieces, art buyers can see the potential in the design. They may decide to use the main design for a plate, the pattern designs for napkins, the border designs for ribbon, etc. By giving art buyers vision with a certain piece, I am allowing my work to be more sellable. It gives an instant vision of what can be done with one illustration.

Now the plan is to do the same with several other of my illustrations before my little bundle decides to make an appearance! :)

I love designing products for children’s rooms. I LOVED decorating Isaac’s room and am already planning his toddler room! I was recently contacted by Goodnite Moon Kids to do this very kind of work – yay! We’re in the midst of creating lots of fun designs. I’m working on kid’s canvas prints, clock designs, growth charts, and even dishware. Goodnite Moon Kids sells many of their products to big name stores like Rosenberry Rooms. I’m very excited about this new working relationship and am looking forward to posting some more of the work I’m designing for them.
This is one of the my favorite canvas prints so far – The Ballerina. In order to bring the canvases to life, I’ve worked in some fun backgrounds. Many of my current portfolio pieces are on white backgrounds so it’s been really interesting to add another dimension to my work.
I’d love to hear your feedback :)

I recently completed a project with Kalliope Audiobooks. Kalliope takes classic children’s tales and turns them into audiobooks! I was asked to design the cover of the Raggedy & Andy audiobook. This was a perfect project for me as I think my style fits perfectly with these characters. I also really enjoyed working on this illustration because it was a bit different than other projects I’ve been working on lately – I love doing full coloured scenes like this. I was also given a lot of creative freedom with this project – always a bonus! It was a pleasure working with the company and hopefully I’ll be able to work with them again soon :) Click here to rate this illustration.

I’m also in the middle of a complete redesign! I’m redesigning my logo, website, business cards, etc. I’m looking for a fresh look that will stand the test of time. I’m looking to have a proper homepage for my website (rather then going directly to my blog). I’ve already redesigned my logo and will be posting a sneak peak of it in the next couple weeks. I’ve begun redesigning my website and I’m excited to announce that this design is going to be a lot more fun and playful than my current design. I’m excited to show you my new ideas in the weeks to come :)

In this bitterly cold winter, I’m really missing the pale, pretty colours of spring! Click here to rate this illustration.
It’s great to get back to illustrating! This illustration was just for fun but lately I’ve been working on updating my portfolio. I have a lot of one-off illustrations that work well for products, greeting cards, or prints but I’m really interested in getting into children’s book illustration. I’ve decided to start working on some book layouts to add to my portfolio in order to branch off into this area!
I’ve decided to illustrate a few spreads in the book, ‘Guess How Much I Love You’ by Sam McBratney. It’s one of my favorite children’s books so I thought it’d be fun to do. I’ve just started some character development sketches so I’ll be posting those once my characters are established. Then I’ll work on the page layouts and start my sketches. I’ll keep you posted on my progress. Have a great weekend!

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted a new illustration. I had a little time the other day to have some fun on the computer and decided to do a bit of illustrating. It was nice to get back into it! Isaac is doing very well and growing so quickly – I can’t believe he’s already a month old! Hope you’re all doing well :)
