Hi everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far! I can’t believe it is already August! The project I am sharing today uses the Whale stamp from Rachelle Anne Miller. There is something so sweet about this image. I just love it so much!
Printing and Coloring
I sized and printed the image onto white card stock. I recently received Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils as a gift, so I decided to use them along with my Copics to color this image. Here are the colors I used:
Whale: W3, W1, W0, W00 (Copic); 270. 271, 272, 273, 274 (Polychromos)
Boy Skin: E53, E51, E50 (Copic); 130, 132 (Polychromos)
Boy Hair: 177,176, 180, 183 (Polychromos)
Boy Shirt: 156, 154 (Polychromos)
Boy Pants: 110, 152, 145 (Polychromos)
Stars: Y15, Y13, Y11 (Copics)
On the whale, I started with Copics first and then decided to add the colored pencils on top to smooth out the blending. Adding color with the pencils on the smaller images was much easier than using Copics. I had more control of the color and found it easier to stay within the lines!
Die Cutting & Ink Blending
I lined up the third largest die from My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Circle STAX Die-namics over my image and ran everything through my die-cutting machine. I knew I wanted to use Distress Oxide Inks to blend the nighttime sky and ocean for this card. So, I printed and cut out two masks. One for the sky and one for the ocean. I carefully masked off the whale and ocean and blended Tumbled Glass, Chipped Saphire, and Black Soot over the unmasked portion to create the sky background. I repeated the same process for the ocean but left out Black Soot.
Finishing Card
Once the ink was dry on my background, I stamped a sentiment from Reverse Confetti Huggable stamp set with versafine ink. Then, I sprinkled white embossing powder over it and heat set it with my heat tool. Next, I used my ScanNCut to cut out a white circle 1/4 inches bigger in diameter than the stitched die I used. I turned the stitched card panel around, added adhesive to the back, and adhered it to the larger circle. Finally, I added the finished card panel to a matching card base and glued Pretty Pink Posh Metallic jewels over the top to finish the card.
I love my new color pencils, and I am so happy I was able to use them on this beautiful image. I can’t wait to practice more with them and use them on future cards! Thanks so much for stopping by! – Mona
